Rosie The Riveter: Avatar Project
In 2008, Nathan Cartwright, curator and owner of The Hive Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles, asked artists to create Avatars for Hiveland. I wanted my Avatar to be an icon for strength through adversity. Rosie the Riveter embodies the qualities of passion, purity and the skills to thrive in the Caves of the Firelands.
"Rosie the Riveter" by Snow Mack
Avatar Rosie dwells in the caves below Fireland in the Hiveland. Originally
from Planet Cheese, Rosie dwells in the heat of the fires and yet she does not melt.
Rosie's belief in the powers of purity bind her to the fires. The fires fuel her passion for
creating weapons. For a price, Rosie will fashion a weapon for those who seek her skills.
The price for a weapon is unique to each seeker. The cost cannot be paid with currency.
Rosie asks the seeker to bring an item of special personal significance as remittance.
Through a process of intense heat and energy of thought a weapon is forged from the
precious item gifted by the seeker. The unique weapon may be a tool of violence
but most often the weapon imparts the seeker with powers beyond the physical realm.
Rosie is most often sought for forging weapons of wisdom and weapons of clear intention.
Living in the Fireland Caves of Hiveland takes great courage and tenacity. Rosie gains strength and wisdom as
she shares her abilities with others. It is possible for Hiveland to reward the seeker with endless wealth
and powers. A visit to Rosie the Riveter will facilitate the quest for material as well as
spiritual riches. The seeker must be willing to give up something treasured in order to gain the knowledge
or skills necessary to bee successful.

For the second installment of Hiveland avatars the theme was "Love And War In Hiveland". I created "Reign of the Mantra". Rosie the Riveter sits in a lotus of Om Bombs while Oms radiate from her to protect the Universe.
Om, or Aum, "written universally as ॐ, is a mystical sound of Sanskrit origin, sacred and important in various Dharmic religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism." (Wikipedia) People often ask me what the symbol for Om represents. For me, Om is a Mantra, a soothing humming sound that I chant when I meditate, more completely Om Nama Shivaya. "Hindus believe that as creation began, the divine, all-encompassing consciousness took the form of the first and original vibration manifesting as sound "OM".

In 2010, for the 3rd installment of the Avatar project at the Hive Gallery, a love theme guided the imagery. For inspiration I turned to the 1939 version of "Wuthering Heights" directed by William Wyler. This film had a profound effect on me, I watched it alone on my fifteenth birthday and cried and cried. The story was so romantic! In "Cheesy Romance Novel: The Flames Of Desire", Rosie the Riveter loves Violet Oracle who holds a fireflower that blooms at midnight to honor the Water Goddess. The fireflower, or rose or lily or lotus represents the essential gift of the Goddess's love.
