I credit my mother, Mary C. Snow, with the inspiration for this painting. I found this photo of her taken in Japan, where I was born, when she was pregnant with me. The poetic quality of the image was a starting point for the love story depicted in "Forbidden Love Of Blue Cheese Ninja and Geisha Crane Song". While on location in West Vancouver, in 2009, I found myself surrounded by Cherry trees in full bloom. I started sketching the scene and designing the layout for this painting. Koi, dragonflies, lanterns, kimonos, Geishas, and Ninjas are just a few of the iconic Asian elements I considered. While researching, I learned in Japan, the dragonfly is a symbol of strength, courage and happiness. One of Japan's historical names translates as Dragonfly Island.
