In 2010, for the 3rd installment of the Avatar project at the Hive Gallery, a love theme guided the imagery. For inspiration I turned to the 1939 version of "Wuthering Heights" directed by William Wyler. This film had a profound effect on me, I watched it alone on my fifteenth birthday and cried and cried. The story was so romantic! In "Crazy Romance Novel: The Flames Of Desire", Rosie the Riveter loves Violet Oracle who holds a fireflower that blooms at midnight to honor the Water Goddess. The fireflower, or rose or lily or lotus represents the essential gift of the Goddess's love.
In 2008, Nathan Cartwright, curator and owner of The Hive Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles, asked artists to create Avatars for Hiveland. I wanted my Avatar to be an icon for strength through adversity. Rosie the Riveter embodies the qualities of passion, purity and the skills to thrive in the Caves of the Firelands.
